Illustration fancy: Japanese Maneki Neko tea towel

For the past couple of days I have been working on this tea towel design, I wasn't too happy with the colours and texture in the old design but I persisted thinking that it can be tweaked once finished. Although I was sort of happy with the outcome, it just didn't feel right, the colouring was too controlled, too cartoonish. I went back to the drawing board and came up with this second idea. It is now more muted with less colours and am now very happy with the result.

Just need to work on two more designs and get it printed. I can't wait to show you once it arrives, really excited.

I have posted some pictures of the Oxford St Design Store launch party on my  facebook  page. It was such a fun night and it felt so good to see my tea towels in a shop. There were only two left, so I'm assuming the others were already bought and taken to their brand new home. :)

Yellow Melissa shoes

Yellow Melissa shoes
Date acquired: March 2010
These are one of the most comfortable high heels I own. They are made of plastic and smells like bubble gum. The yellow is so bright that I'm surprise it doesn't glow in the dark. I always know that I'm going too have a good dat whenever I put these on.

Q-pot teapot necklace

Q-pot teapot necklace
Date acquired: October 2007
This was a present from Mat for my 27th birthday. It is a clever little ceramic teapot. The chain is attached to the lid and when I'm not wearing it I can easily tuck the chain back into the pot. The perfect jewellery and desktop ornament.

Ceramic farm girl

Ceramic farm girl
Date acquired: around 2004
I bought this at the Rozelle Markets, it was from a very grumpy old man who was selling lots of old figurines. I think I got her for around 50c. I love her little cheeky smile and the way she is holding her hands. At the moment she lives in my bookcase along with my other knick knacks.

The unbearable lightness of being

The unbearable lightness of being
Date acquired: around 2004
I love this book, it is one of those books where you want to stop and ponder every mid sentence. I tend to re-read it every year, and each time it has a brand new meaning for me.

Polka dots woolen skirt

Polka dots woolen skirt
Date acquired: approx. 2006
I found this skirt recently when I was clearing out my wardrobe. I haven't worn it for years, can't even remembered where I got it from. I'm surprised that it hasn't been my winter stable for the past few years, the polka dots put a silly grin on my face every time I wear it.

Solar powered owl

Solar powered owl
Date acquired : summer 2008
I got this during our trip to Hong Kong at Stanley Markets. I fell in love with it the first time I layed eyes on it. It has a solar strip at the bottom that makes his head shakes from side to side. At the moment he has a residency in my bookcase, the sad thing thou, the bookcase is situated at somewhere where the sun can’t reach.

Minolta 404si

Minolta 404si
Date acquired : approx. year 2000
It was a present from mum and dad, it was my baby for about 4 years until I got my first digital camera. I’ve used it again recently when my digital camera was broken, however it is getting more and more redundant as it costs a lot of money and effort just to get the film developed.
